The Assen railway station is a through station, the Dutch railway company NS in the Dutch city of Assen. It is the largest and most important railway station in the province Drenthe.

History

The station was, with the railway line Meppel - Groningen opened on 1 May 1870. The original station building was in 1868 by the architect KH van Brederode designed and built under his guidance. In the years 1905-1947 there was a train to Stadskanaal. In 1977, the route was then completely dismantled. In 1988, the station received a new building, designed by architect Rob Steenhuis.
