Asuel

Asuel (French [ azɥɛl ], in the local dialect [ ezɥe ]; German hare Castle ) is a village and a former municipality in the district of Porrentruy in the canton of Jura in Switzerland.

Geography

Asuel is located on 569 m above sea level. M., 11 km east of the district municipal seat Porrentruy (air line). The former street line village extends into a valley and in the south adjacent constriction of Asuel - Bach, in the Baroche, the eastern part of the Ajoie ( German Elsgau ) in the Jura.

Population

With 186 inhabitants ( end of 2007) Asuel was one of the small communities of the Canton of Jura. Of the 90.7 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 7.9 % and 1.4 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). Since 1870 (then 462 inhabitants), the population of Asuel has halved.

Economy

Asuel is still agricultural. Outside the agricultural sector there are jobs in the local small businesses. Many workers (over 50 %) are, however, commuters and work mainly in the region Porrentruy. On the southern slopes of Chaumont is a large quarry.

Traffic

History

Attractions
