Ocourt (French [o ( ː ) ku ː ʀ ], in the local dialect [ Okwe ] ) is a village and a former municipality in the district of the Swiss canton of Jura Porrentruy.

Geography

Ocourt is located on 424 m above sea level. M., 7 km south of the district municipal seat Porrentruy (air line). The small village extends into the here 500 m wide Talniederung of the Doubs, the Jura Mountains west of Saint- Ursanne.

The area of ​​11.6 km ² large former municipal area comprises between two Jura chains deeply incised valley of the Doubs River in the area of ​​the Clos du Doubs with a 200 to 500 m wide flat valley floor. Population

With 134 inhabitants ( end of 2007) Ocourt was one of the small communities of the Canton of Jura. Of the 77.3 % inhabitants are French-speaking, 22.0 % and 0.8 % in German and Spanish speaking (as of 2000). The population of Ocourt amounted in 1850 to 381 residents in 1900 to 244 inhabitants. Since then, a further significant decrease in population was recorded.

Economy

Ocourt is an embossed through farming village, where the livestock and dairy farming predominate, and there are also fruit growing. The place offers few jobs outside the primary sector. Those workers who are not engaged in agriculture, mainly working in Saint- Ursanne.

History

His first mention of the village is in a copy of 1179 a document from the year 1139 as Oscurt. Attractions
