Geography

Geographical Location

Bergfeld is between the natural parks of South Heath and Drömling to the Little All in the historical landscape of the Vorsfelder Werder. The community belongs to the Samtgemeinde Brome, which has its administrative headquarters in the spots Brome. The watershed between the rivers Elbe and Weser runs through the district. Surrounding villages are Parsau that is three kilometers to the east, Tiddische four kilometers south-west, Tülau four kilometers north and Lessien five kilometers north-east.

History

The settlement Bergfeld is Wendish origin and probably dates back to the 6th to 8th centuries. The name Bergfeld is probably a composition of the German word field and the Slavic Bregu. Both words mean the same thing, a field, or at the time, often a piece of shore. The field names to Bergfeld are of Slavic origin. According to another interpretation, the name means mountain - field, ie a field on the slight hill on which the town is located. First mentioned in a document of the place is in the year 1135 as a mining field, as it belongs to the monastery to the king Lutter. The original village form was that of a Wendish the winder. Bergfeld never had its own church, but is gepfarrt after Parsau.

According to a settlement directory in 1850 were at that time 20 farms. A school house with bell tower was built. In 1900 Bergfeld was a scattered village. In World War 14 soldiers from Bergfeld died in World War II 32

1858 lived in Bergfeld 273 people, by 1939 it had 355 inhabitants. By 1950, the number increased because of the influx of refugees to 543. 1985, the population was 705 in 1985 there were 43 farms, 20 of which had less than five acres of land. According to census of Samtgemeinde Brome lived at June 30, 2013 874 inhabitants in Bergfeld.

The community Bergfeld became effective July 1 1972 at the Samtgemeinde Rühen. According to their resolution, Bergfeld completed on 15 March 1974 at the newly founded Samtgemeinde Brome. Thus, the community withdrew from the district of Helmstedt and was part of the district Gifhorn.

Economy and infrastructure

Traffic

District roads lead to Parsau, Tülau and Tiddische. The mostly single-track road to Lessien was closed to public traffic. The B - 248 Wolfsburg Salzwedel is located west and north of the community in six kilometers away.
