Geography

Geographical Location

Obernholz between the natural parks Drömling and South Heath. The community belongs to the Samtgemeinde Hankensbuettel, which has its headquarters in the town of Hankensbuettel.

Neighboring communities

In the south and west Obernholz borders the municipalities Sprakensehl, Dedelstorf and Hankensbuettel, on the east by the city of Witt rings and on the north by the district of Uelzen.

History

Incorporations

On March 1, 1974, the formerly independent communities Bottendorf, Schweimke, Steimke, Wentorf, Wettendorf and Wierstorf merged to form the new municipality of top wood. The name comes from the parcel located in the center of Upper wood. From this name Obernholz arose.

Coat of arms

The green color of the left upper half crest embodies the woods, meadows and Nutzlandbestand. The black of the lower right half of the bog. Streams and rivers are symbolized by the silver shaft helical beams. The upper half of the Golden Wheel ( cartwheel ) is reminiscent of the old military road that once ran through the area and to the resident craft. Structures

  • In the municipality there are 10 wind turbines with a height of up to 100 m and a rotor diameter of 50 m. On February 4, 2011, a plant was damaged in a fire.
  • One kilometer north-west of Wettendorf is a radar tower of the former low-flying aircraft detection and Leitdienstes the Air Force.
