Location and construction

The breakpoint is located at kilometer 13.6 of the Spandau suburb train from West Cross by Stresow. Parallel to the suburban railway tracks run the remote tracks of the hamburger connection web, which is south out past the platform and the suburban railroad crossing level freely in the direction of the station highway. The common run in the incision line is bordered to the north from the fairgrounds and Jafféstrasse as well as in the south of the settlement Eichkamp.

The facility includes a 160 meter long central platform for the S -Bahn, which is covered in two -thirds of the length. Sunrises consist of both platforms and at mid-height and lead to the fairgrounds (western stairs), to Waldschulallee or Jafféstraße ( medium rise ) and for Eichkampstraße (eastern stairs). The station building at the Waldschulallee is executed as the average rise in rotbunter clinker built according to plans of Richard Brademann. In the building the calibration signal box was built which regulated long-distance and suburban services on the route in this area. The plant is listed as a historic landmark in the Berlin state monument list.

History

The first station Eichkamp was opened on 1 May 1896 by the Wetzlar train and about 250 meters in a straight line was southeast of the current S- train station. The connecting train to Spandau led to this time directly from the Wetzlar train station to the military road. In the wake of the "Great electrification " of the Berlin city, ring and suburban railways and the construction of the exhibition center, the railway facilities in the intersection area of Wetzlar and ring road and the tapering here Spandau routes have been extensively altered. The connecting train to Spandau was swung to the south in order to make room for the new fairgrounds. At the same time, she received a second pair of tracks for the separation of long-distance and suburban. As a transfer point between the suburban lines as well as access to the fairgrounds was founded in 1928, the tower station exhibition (since 1932: West Cross). The old breakpoint Eichkamp at the Wetzlar train was abandoned it and set a new breakpoint at Spandau suburban railway. On August 23, 1928, the old S-Bahn station was abandoned and taken at the same time the new station in operation. First, the stop was only one exit to Waldschulallee around the settlement Eichkamp to tap verkehrlich. For cost reasons, a platform roofing was only at the level of staircases, a full canopy was like a northern exit to the fairgrounds but already provided.

In 1935, the second outlet was opened in the extension of the pedestrian bridge for better access to the grounds as well as the newly constructed Germany Hall. The design of Fritz Hane and Hugo Röttcher was based on the existing plant, but gave up a reception building. On May 15, 1936, the renaming of the breakpoint in Germany Hall took place.

The S -Bahn came due to the war in April 1945 to a standstill and was resumed on June 9, 1945. To 1 October 1946 was to rename the Eichkamp.

After the construction of the Wall and the subsequent S-Bahn boycott ridership throughout the West Berlin S- Bahn network declined drastically. This development was followed on 17 September 1980, a strike of West Berlin kingdom workers, consequently, the Reichsbahn traffic on most routes ceased, so also on the Spandau suburb train. Although the entrances were sealed in Eichkamp by this development, the stop was exposed in the period that followed the vandalism.

On January 9, 1984, the Berlin Transport Services ( BVG) took over the operation rights of the West Berlin S-Bahn. In the following years, the southern section of the Spandau suburb train was used for driving school purposes. To restart the system was also provided. The plans concretized with the reunification of the two halves of the city 1989 /1990. The following year, 1991 saw the first measure, the refurbishment of the reception building. In 1997, the remaining assets of the holding point were rehabilitated, the on 16 January 1998 followed the re-opening of the section of West Cross by Pichelsberg. The northern entrance was later demolished and built in its place an elevator system for barrier-free access. In connection with the re-opening of an eastern access to Eichkampstraße and a western access to the fairgrounds were also realized. The latter is only open for events and executed according to wide for the number of visitors. For better orientation, the station was renamed Messe Süd ( Eichkamp ) on 16 June 2002.
