Bernardo Ruiz

Bernardo Ruiz Navarrete ( born January 8, 1925 in Orihuela ) is a retired Spanish road bicycle racer.

As a good climber Ruiz worked hard at regional tours in Spain until the victory succeeded in 1948 in the Vuelta a major breakthrough. He cashed the mountain classification and three stages. In 1950, he won another Vuelta stage. Then began a very successful international career. He scored 1951 on his first participation in the Tour de France right away two stage wins, 9th in the overall standings and 3rd in the mountains classification. In the same year he also won another stage victory in the Tour de Romandie. In 1952 he succeeded to the 3rd place in the overall standings his best finish in the Tour. Also at the Giro d' Italia, he participated repeatedly, but did not have a 28th rank out. However, he also won the Giro d' Italia in 1955 a stage victory. Overall, Ruiz took part in eight times Tour and the Vuelta and six times at the Giro d' Italia. From 1955 to 1957 he completed every three grand tours all the way up to the goal. 1957 succeeded in 3rd place at the Vuelta once again a top result. His career lasted from 1944 until 1958. Afterwards he was cycling still connected some time as a team leader. Among other Angelino Soler won under his direction in 1961, the Vuelta. Later he returned to his hometown, where he ran a business for motorbikes and bicycles for a long time.
