Bohodukhiv

Bohoduchiw (Ukrainian Богодухів; Russian Богодухов / Bogoduchow ) is a city in Ukraine and the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons in the northwest of the Kharkiv Oblast with about 15,000 inhabitants ( 2013).

Geography

Bohoduchiw is located on the right bank of the river Merla (Ukrainian Мерла ), a 116 km long left tributary of the Vorskla 60 km northwest of Oblastzentrums Kharkiv and 55 kilometers east of Ochtyrka. The town has a station on the railway line Sumy - Kharkiv.

Still belongs to the municipality of the village Krejdjanka (Ukrainian Крейдянка ) with about 35 inhabitants.

History

Founded in 1662, the place obtained in 1781 the status of a city. In the 19th century the city was the administrative center of Ujesd Bohoduchiw in the government of Kharkov. On August 7, 1943, the city of the crew of the Wehrmacht was liberated by the Red Army.

Bohoduchiw is the administrative center of the company founded in 1923 Rajon Bohoduchiw. It has an area of 1160.31 km ², a population of about 39,900 inhabitants and a population density of 35 inhabitants per km ². It is bordered on the north by the Sumy Oblast.
