Bologoye

Bologoje (Russian Бологое ) is a town in Tver Oblast (Russia) with 23,494 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is situated on the northern edge of the Valdai Hills about 160 km north-west of Tver Oblasthauptstadt on Bologoje lake in the river system of the Volkhov.

Bologoje is the Oblast administratively subordinated directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The town lies on the railway line opened in 1851 Saint Petersburg- Moscow, the former railway Nikolai ( kilometer 319, about halfway between the endpoints ). This is here the track ( Yaroslavl ) Rybinsk Bologoje - Pskov ( Riga / Tallinn) crossed, the former Rybinsk - Pskov - Windawaer railroad. In addition, a route toward Welikije Luki and Belarusian border branches.

By Bologoje also the M10 highway Moscow - Saint Petersburg performs - Finnish border.

History

A village of the same was first mentioned in documents in 1495, belonging to the Novgorod land ( the former Republic of Novgorod ) the Grand Duchy of Moscow.

In connection with the construction of Nikolai railway station around 1850, large depot, workshops and railway settlement Bologoje. Already in the 19th century Bologoje became an important railway junction.

In 1926 the city charter was granted.
