Bor, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast

Bor (Russian Бор ) is a city in Russia. It has 78 058 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) and is located in the Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, east of Nizhny Novgorod on the opposite bank of the Volga.

History

The town was first mentioned as a suburb of Nizhny Novgorod in the 13th century. Originally it was called Weslomskaja Sloboda and lay one kilometer south of its present location. An old Slavic name " coniferous forest " means and is reminiscent of the wooded surroundings of the town - Since the 14th century the village was called boron. Economy and Transport
