Lukoyanov

Lukojanow (Russian Лукоянов ) is a town in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast (Russia) with 14,951 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 170 km southeast of Nizhny Novgorod on the Oblasthauptstadt Tjoscha, a right tributary of the opening into the Volga River Oka.

Lukojanow is the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

History

The town was founded in the 16th century by a certain Ivashka Lukojanow, who built a mill here, and named after him.

From the mid-17th century the village belonged to the Russian tsar.

On September 5, 1779 Place received its town charter as an administrative center of a circle ( Ujesds ). At 1816, the town was seriously damaged by fire.

Culture and sights

The city has a museum of local history in the wooden house of Blokhin family from the 19th century.

Economy and infrastructure

In Lukojanow there are plants of mechanical engineering and the construction and building materials industry ( eg, refractory materials).

The town lies on the railway line opened in 1903 Rusajewka - Arzamas - Nizhny Novgorod. By Lukojanow also performs the highway 1R 158 Nizhny Novgorod, Arzamas - Saransk.
