Bovisio Masciago

Bovisio Masciago ( with hyphen) is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 16,712 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Monza and Brianza in Lombardy. The municipality is situated approximately 15 km north of Milan and about 12 kilometers northwest of Monza in the Po Plain. It borders the province of Milan. Through the village, the river flows Seveso.

History

In 1928, the towns and Bovisio Masciago Milanese were merged. This resulted in the church today. The names derive from the Latin place names. Bovisio comes from bovis otium, Masciago of martis ager.

Personalities

  • Anselmo da Bovisio (precise dates unknown ), Archbishop of Milan, led the Lombard troops of the Crusade of 1101.
