Boxing at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's welterweight

The welterweight boxing competition of the men ( to 69 kg) at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was held from July 29 to August 12, 2012 at the Exhibition Centre London. 28 boxers participated.

The competition was held in the knockout system. It started with the first round, which included 32 starting places. Since only 28 qualified boxer, four athletes were randomly assigned byes. The winners came into the second round, quarterfinals and semifinals. The winners of the semi-finals competing for the gold medal, both losers received the bronze medal.

The struggle between the Indians and the Americans Vikas Spence had a sequel. The first fight ended in victory ( 11-9 ) of the Indian. The U.S. team lodged a protest, whereupon the fight video was spotted by a jury of the World Association AIBA. The judges found alone in the third round nine fouls (hold) of the Indian, of which only one has been punished by the referee with a warning. In the second round of the Indians spat his mouth protection from intentional ( 2:38 minutes ), but was not cautioned by the referee. The jury came to the conclusion that the referee should have given the Indians at least two more warnings. The U.S. boxers were awarded four points, scored the fight 11-13 in favor of Spence.

Medals

Serik Säpijew was responsible for the Kazakh third consecutive victory in this weight class. Säpijew was awarded to the Olympic boxing tournament of the Val Barker trophy as the best technical boxer of the Games following.
