Bréhain

Bréhain is a commune of 105 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Château- Salins, in the canton of Delme and the Communauté de communes du Kommunalverband Saulnois.

Geography

Bréhain located in Saulnois at the headwaters of the French Nied, 35 kilometers southeast of Metz and 25 kilometers southwest of Saint- Avold at an altitude 244-314 meters above sea level between the neighboring communities of Château- Bréhain in the south west of Villers -sur -Nied in the north and Marthille in the Northeast. The municipality covers 3.59 km ² ( 359 acres ).

History

The place name Bréhain was first mentioned in 1169 as documented Berchem, 1178, he appeared as Brehem on. The name originated from the Germanic word "mountain" and place names mission " home ". 1450 is occupied by the German name Bruchheim.

Before the French Revolution (1789-1799) Bréhain belonged to Château- Bréhain. The feudal Château- Bréhain belonged to the barony of Viviers, which in turn belonged to Marquisat of Pont- à -Mousson in the 14th century. 1698 Pont -à -Mousson was a Bailliage of the Duchy of Bar from 1751 belonged to the village of Château -Salins Bailliage.

1793 received Bréhain as Bréhain in the wake of the French Revolution the status of a municipality and 1801 also as Bréhain the right to local self-government. The municipal coat of arms is red with a golden spear standing upright in the middle and rises from the silver waves of a river.
