Brent Burns

William Brent Burns ( born March 9, 1985 in Ajax, Ontario ) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who plays since June 2011 with the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League on the position of the defender.

Career

Burns played during his junior time mostly as a right winger for the Brampton Battalion in the Ontario Hockey League, which he considered as an attacking defender who shoots relatively many goals. In 2003 NHL Entry Draft, he was selected in 20th place of the Minnesota Wild and changed in the fall in the National Hockey League.

From his second season with the Wild, he was a regular player and one of the main pillars of his team. Burns is a physical player who does not shy away from fights and hard checks.

Through his 15 goals and 28 assists in the 2007/ 08 season he received from coach Ken Hitchcock a squad place in the Canadian National Ice Hockey team for the 2008 World Championship, which was held in Halifax and Quebec. Here Burns lost the final of the two undefeated so far this list Russia and Canada with 4:5, and won the silver medal. Furthermore, Burns was selected as the best defender of the tournament.

On 18 November 2009 Burns suffered in the game against the Phoenix Coyotes a head injury and fell for several months from playing out.

On 24 June 2011 it gave the Minnesota Wild along with a second-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft in exchange for Devin Setoguchi 2012, Charlie Coyle and a first-round vote in the NHL Entry Draft in 2011 to the San Jose Sharks from. In August 2011, Burns extended his after the season 2011/12 expiring contract for another five years.
