The center

Castle is a municipality in the district of Kulm in the canton of Aargau. It is located in the upper Wynental, bordering the canton of Lucerne, with an area of ​​94 hectares, the second smallest municipality in the canton.

Geography

The village is located on the west side of the valley on the slopes of Mount Taurus. The steep gorge of the Doe brook, a tributary of the Wyna, forms the southern boundary of the municipality. History

The origins of the village date back to the 12th century castle, built in the sub - Rinach, the ancestral home of the Lords of Rinach. These were a Ministerialengeschlecht of the Habsburgs and ruled over the upper Wynental. During the Sempacherkriegs in 1386, the castle was destroyed by the Confederates. The 15 -meter high castle ruins in 1872 had to make way for the new building of the school house.
