Castignano

Castignano ( in the local dialect: Castëgnà ) is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2917 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Ascoli Piceno in the Marche. The community is located about 9.5 kilometers north- northeast of Ascoli Piceno and directly borders the province of Teramo. Castignano is part of the Comunità Montana del Tronto. The Tesino forms the northeastern boundary of the municipality.

History

In the municipality of Castignano the stele, a sandstone Bustrophedon from the 7th or 6th century BC, was found.
