Centre Region (Burkina Faso)
Centre is one of 13 regions in the West African nation of Burkina Faso is divided administratively. Capital is Ouagadougou, which is also the capital of the country. The region includes only the province and has 1,410,543 inhabitants Kadiogo ( January 2006).
Geography
The region is located in the center of the state and covers 2805 km ². Neighboring regions are central plateau to the north and east, Centre -Sud -Ouest Centre in the south and the west. The climate is sudanese with a rainy season, the region comprises three so-called Forestry classées: Wéogo, Nakambé and Gonse.
Population
Centre has 1,532,980 inhabitants ( census 2006). The area is traditional homeland of the Mossi, but the capital Ouagadougou is a magnet for people from all over the country, thus in the region are members of all ethnic groups represented in Burkina Faso found.
History
The region was created in 1996.
Policy
Governor is Boureima Bougouma.
Structure
Centre is organized into the province Kadiogo and those in the departments of Pabré, Koubri, Komki - Ipala, Komsilga, Tanghin - Dassouri and Saaba.
Infrastructure
In Centre is the international airport of Ouagadougou, and find a link to the railway line to Abidjan.
Economy
The region is one of the economic centers of the country, about 25 % of the population are mainly engaged in agriculture, there are small and medium-sized industries. The capital is the center of the Burkinabe services industry.
Culture
Every two years there is the Pan African Film Festival FESPACO.
