Charles Boustany

Charles William Boustany ( born February 21, 1956 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is an American politician. Since 2005 he represents the state of Louisiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Charles Boustany first visited the Cathedral Carmel High School in Lafayette. Then he studied until 1978 at the University of Southwestern Louisiana. This was followed up in 1982 to study medicine at Louisiana State University in New Orleans. He then worked as a doctor.

Politically, Boustany joined the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 2004, he was appointed as their candidate in the seventh constituency of Louisiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrat Chris John on January 3, 2005. After the previous four elections he can exercise his mandate in Congress today. In the 2010 elections, he was re-elected even without an opposing candidate; In 2012 he went to due to a redesign of the electoral districts in the third district and had to be there, the intra-party challenge from Jeff Landry provide. After none of the candidates had achieved in the election on November 6, 2012 the absolute majority, there was a runoff election on December 8 of the same year, the Boustany clearly won against Landry with 61:39 percent of the vote.

He is with Bridget Edwards, a niece of former Democratic Governor Edwin Edwards, married. The couple has two children and lives privately in Lafayette.
