Christer Olsson

Christer Olsson ( born July 24, 1970 in Arboga ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player who has played in its active period from 1988 to 2005 included for the St. Louis Blues and Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League.

Career

Christer Olsson began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at the IFK Arboga, for which he was active in the then third-tier Division 2 in the 1988/89 season. Then the defender played three years for the second division Mora IK and IF Brynäs from the Elitserien. With Brynäs he won in the 1992/93 season the Swedish championship, after which he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1993 in the eleventh round when a total of 275 players from the St. Louis Blues. For the Blues, he was in the 1995/96 season his debut in the National Hockey League, where he scored two goals in 29 games in his rookie year and had eight assists. In parallel, he was in 39 games for St. Louis farm team, the Worcester IceCats in the American Hockey League action.

After Olsson had begun the season 1996/ 97 in St. Louis, he was released on 27 November 1996 in exchange for the Slovaks Pavol Demitra to the Ottawa Senators. For Canadians the links Sagittarius played 25 games in which he scored five points scorer, before he returned after this season in his native Sweden. There he spent two seasons for Västra Frölunda before it was committed in the 1999/2000 season by the EC KAC in the Austrian Hockey League, with which he was master of both, as well as Inter won the league. Subsequently, the 1998 world champion was awarded a contract with his former club Brynäs IF, for whom he played for two seasons before joining in the summer of 2002 to its domestic rivals Leksand IF, with whom he descent into second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan 2004. Following the 2004/05 season in which he reached with Leksand as second division champions the direct promotion back to the Elitserien, the former NHL player ended his career at the age of 34 years.

For Sweden Olsson participated in the World Championships 1995, 1998, 1999 and 2001 in part.
