CIS University Cup

The Canadian University Championship in ice hockey is organized annually by Canadian Interuniversity Sport discharged ( to 2001 Canadian Interuniversity Athletics Union). In the men enter 34 and for women 29 teams in three Conferences against each other, which in the men as opposed to women and other sports in the CIS of the sub- associations Atlantic University Sport, Canada West Universities Athletic Association, Ontario University Athletics and Réseau du sport du Québec étudiant differ. The best teams in the Conferences play at the end of the season in a final round for the championship in the men of the University Cup.

University Cup

The University Cup is awarded annually to the winner of the CIS Hockey Championship for Men. The trophy was first played in 1962/ 63, as the Queen's University and the Royal Military College of Canada came together. These two universities from Kingston had already faced the first game between two Canadian universities at all in 1885. The University Cup is intended to recall the great contribution they have done University players for the development of hockey.

Total so far were 27 different teams in the finals for the University Cup, of which 15 have so far won the trophy. Giants are the Alberta Golden Bears, who have won 13 of their 18 Cup participations, followed by the Toronto Varsity Blues with 10 titles. The Moncton Aigles Bleu and the UQTR Patriotes could win the University Cup four times each. The Toronto Varsity Blues hold also with five victories 1969-1973 the record for most consecutive title.

The CIS Women's Championship is played since 1998. Giants are the Alberta Pandas with seven titles. The McGill Martlets won the championship three times, while the Concordia Stingers won two titles.
