Civitanova Marche

Civitanova Marche is a central Italian town with 40 519 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of brands. It is located near the provincial capital of Macerata. The inhabitants call themselves Civitanovesi. The city was founded in 1555.

History

Under Emperor Augustus Italy was in Year 8 nC divided into 11 regions. In the so-called 5 " Regio", north of the mouth of the river Cluentums, today Chienti was Cluana, today Civitanova. Even between the 4th and the 5th century Civitanova had a very lively trading activity. Among the Franks, the small town accepted feudalism.

During the 14th and 15th century you had to protect yourself against many dangers: on the bickering among the most powerful and richest families and groups, but especially against the Turks. Therefore, a new wall was built in 1440 to protect the city. Under Pope Pius II a castle was erected in 1475 on the harbor with the aim to prepare for the event of an attack from the sea.

In the 17th century, the city beautified with a new place and the building of the Church of St. Paul. Napoleon also left many traces of his reign ( Villa Eugenia ). The French were later replaced by the Austrians, whose power lasted until the unification of Italy, which was completed in 1861.

In Civitanova Marche there are, numerous schools ( Liceo Linguistico, Liceo Scientifico, etc. ) is also a University of Foreign Languages ​​: Mediazione Linguistica, which is a branch of the University of Macerata.
