San Severino Marche

San Severino Marche is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 12,965 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Macerata in the Marche region. It lies at the Potenza about 23 kilometers west of Macerata and about 50 kilometers southwest of Ancona. San Severino Marche belongs to the Comunità Montana Valli del old Potenza e esino.

History

A settlement of the region in early times seems occupied by some cemeteries in the area. The origin of the earlier name Septempeda can not be proved in early sources. After the reign of Francesco Sforza, the place was part of the Papal States. The fortress of San Severino Marche lies on 824 m above sea level on Mount San Vicino.

Traffic

The Strada Statale 502 ( di Cingoli ) ends ends here from Ponte Pio (village of Monte Roberto ) and Jesi coming to an intersection with State Road 361 from Ancona to Nocera Umbra. At the non-electrified railway line from Civitanova Marche to Fabiano is a train station.
