Coat of arms of the Solomon Islands

The coat of arms of the Solomon Islands was adopted on the occasion of Independence on July 7, 1978.

Description

The golden shield is quartered diagonally by a green St. Andrew's cross; the cross is covered with two crossed silver spears, black arrows and a brown traditional shield.

The left and right depending on golden field is a brown turtle.

In the blue plate, a main border eagle is between two flying frigate birds, both in natural colors.

Helmwulst and ceiling are silver - blue, as crest serves a traditional boat with a hovering a stylized sun.

Supporters are a salt water crocodile and a shark.

The shield rests on the stylized brown representation of a frigate, under a red- golden banner the state motto reflects in English:

Symbolism

The symbols in the shield stand for four districts of the British Protectorate of the Solomon Islands, which formed the state:

These four symbols were also in the colonial coat of arms under the British lion in chief.

Another coat of arms of the colonial era showed in red a silver turtle in chief in black and silver eight peaks, representing the eight main islands.
