Coat of arms of Tonga

The current coat of arms of Tonga is from the year 1862.

History

The coat of arms was designed by the Prince Ngu Uelongatoni Tupou together with the pastor Shirley Baker in 1862 and has since become the national emblem of Tonga.

Description

The coat of arms of Tonga shows a quartered, framed by golden ornaments shield.

This design repeatedly changed slightly in the Royal standard.

Behind the shield are two national flags.

Above the shield is floating a royal crown, around which a ring of Maizweigen winds, as worn by the chiefs at serious decisions.

The motto on the banner reads in Tongan language:
