Symbol of Tokelau

The coat of arms of Tokelau, a dependent territory of New Zealand, shows a traditional tuluma how to use it the fishermen of the island to transport their catch. A white cross in the middle of tuluma and the motto Tokelau mo te Atua ( tokelauisch for Tokelau for God ) symbolize the close ties of the inhabitants to Christianity.

The Parliament of Tokelau approved on 29 May 2008, the design for a new flag and a new coat of arms. The flag and the coat of arms of New Zealand were used before 2008.
