Description

The coat of arms shows a Bird of Paradise with the wide fanned tail feathers in Prahl position, sitting on a ceremonial spear of the locals before Kundu, an hourglass, in New Guinea widespread wooden drum.

An even more stylized representation of the bird of paradise is found in the flag of Papua New Guinea.

Symbolism

The bird in the middle can be interpreted as a symbol of the unity of the residents. It presents itself as country's symbol, since it is out in New Guinea can only be found in northern Australia and the Moluccas. It was introduced by the Germans as an emblem.

Also, the spear and the drum are vorraging interpreted as symbols of community. Both of which play an important role in the rites of the country.
