Seal of Guam

The coat of arms of Guam since August 4, 1917 in use and in 1930 was officially confirmed. It shows a view of Aganaflusses in capital Hagåtña.

Description

The outline of the coat of arms is that of a spin - stone, which was used by the Chamorro earlier than rifle and hunting utensil.

It shows a coconut tree in barren climes - in the sand on the beach - is growing and thus the population of Guam symbolizes that grows survives under all circumstances. She survived genocides, natural disasters and famines. At the same time the tree is that the people of Guam can feed itself - not least thanks to the coconuts.

Behind the palm tree you see on the water, a flying proa. This ship of the indigenous people of Guam was a fast and agile boat with the necessary skill. Thus, the Chamorros were able to trade with distant islands. This symbolizes the freedom and the courage of the inhabitants at that time, unafraid to go over the sea.

Before the ship of the river Agana is seen carrying the same name as the capital of Guam, Hagåtña, in Spanish. This river, which is in constant exchange with the sea, is a symbol of the will of the inhabitants of Guam to share the resources of their country together.

The red edge of the emblem represents the blood that residents of Guam have shed during the Second World War and the time of the Spanish occupation.

The coat of arms is depicted on the flag of Guam.
