Seal of Florida

The current seal of the U.S. state of Florida was adopted in 1985.

Description

The seal shows a scene with a woman from the tribe of Seminoles when spreading flowers in the foreground.

Behind this is a palm ( Arecaceae, genus Sabal ), the State of Florida plant, on a coastline behind which drives a steam boat in front of the rising sun.

Similar, but more naturalistic representations are also found in the seals of 1861 and 1868.

The outer ring is the English lettering:

Also in the ring is the English motto of the state:

This is also a motto of the United States.

The seal is also found in the middle of the flag of Florida.
