Seal of Kentucky

The seal of the U.S. state of Kentucky was adopted in 1792 as the official seal.

Description

The seal shows two friends greet each other with the handshake. In the popular imagination it is claimed that the dressed in buckskin man is on the left side of Daniel Boone, who was responsible for a large part of the development of Kentucky, and the man in the suit on the right is supposed to be Henry Clay, Kentucky's famous statesman.

It surrounds the state motto:

The motto is taken from the text of The Liberty Song, a patriotic song of the American Revolution.

The Seal finds himself in the middle of the flag of Kentucky.

Symbolism

The official explanation is that the two men symbolic of all explorers and statesmen, and thus do not represent specific individuals.
