Seal of Utah

The Seal of Utah was adopted in 1896 as the official seal of the U.S. state.

Symbolism

The beehive on the sign stands for hard work and diligence. But the hive is also reminiscent of the emblem of the Mormon State of Deseret, Utah, and the colonization of the region by the Mormons. The year 1847 under the shield recalls the year in which the Mormons came to Utah.

A bald eagle, the state bird of the United States, sits on the shield symbolizes protection in peace and war. Under the arrows the eagle is the motto of the British State: " Industry" ( " diligence " ) The two U.S. flags show Utah's support for the nation.

The lily symbolizes peace. To the seal pulls the words " The Great Seal of the State of Utah " ( The Great Seal of the State of Utah) and the year 1896. This year was from the Utah Territory officially the State today.

The seal can be found in a slightly different form in the Utah flag again.
