Seal of New York
The seal of the U.S. state of New York is almost the same as the flag of New York, but in a seal.
Description
The goddess Justitia symbolizes freedom before the law. She is depicted with a blindfold and holding the scales of justice in her left hand.
The goddess Liberty, which symbolizes freedom, holds a staff with a Phrygian cap, the freedom from Great Britain after the American Revolutionary War symbolizes.
Between them there is a sign with a picture of the Hudson Highlands. It depicted the sun and two sailboats on the Hudson River.
Above the shield is a globe showing the Atlantic Ocean, and a bald eagle.
Under the shield stands on a curved banner the Latin motto of the State of New York:
A reproduction of the Seal was the inspiration for the title of Longfellow's Excelsior.
