Seal of Mississippi
The seal of the U.S. state of Mississippi was introduced in 1798, when Mississippi a territory of the United States.
As a Mississippi State was in 1817, a decision was made to continue to lead the seal.
Description
In the center of the seal is a bald eagle, the emblem of the United States positioned. He has spread his wings and raised his head. His chest is decorated with a shield, on which eleven red and white stripes and eleven white stars are shown on a blue background. These represent the eleven states of the Confederacy.
In its talons the eagle holds an olive branch on the one hand as a sign of peace will, on the other hand a quiver of arrows as a sign of the war power.
