Seal of Maine

The seal of the U.S. state of Maine was introduced in June 1820.

History

Over time, various details of the seal changed, but the overall design, and the images used are similar to those of the original. In 1919, the legislature of Maine decided that no further changes to the seal should be made more. Thus, the time specified design is still in use today.

Shaping

The seal can be found in the same form in the center of the flag of Maine.

The center of the seal is a shield, which maps the representation of an elk resting against a pine tree. The whole thing on a field that is bordered by water and forest. Left of the plate is shown a farmer who relies on his scythe, on the other hand, a sailor, leaning on an anchor.

Above the shield is a red banner with the Latin motto " Dirigo " ( " I lead " ) in white, over a stylized representation of the North Star.

Below the shield is a blue banner with the inscription " Maine ".
