Seal of Wisconsin

The seal of the U.S. state of Wisconsin was adopted in 1851 as the official seal.

Description

In the center of the seal is the representation of a shield with different motifs.

It is the English state motto of Wisconsin:

Under the motto of a badger, the state animal is shown.

The Seal finds himself in the flag of Wisconsin.

Symbolism

In the shield there are different symbols:

  • A plow as a symbol of agriculture
  • Pick and shovel as an indication of Wisconsin's coal and mining industry at the time of its founding
  • An arm with a hammer as a symbol of artisans and laborers
  • An anchor as a symbol of the shipbuilding industry
  • As a heart shield coat of arms of the United States with the Latin motto E pluribus unum

Under the shield a cornucopia as a symbol of the prosperity of the state and lead ingots as symbols of the wealth Wisconsin and the 13 founding countries of the United States is shown.

Supporters are a sailor and a miner as symbols of work on land and at sea.

On the outer ring of the seal of the English lettering Great Seal of the State of Wisconsin can be seen.
