Seal of Missouri

The seal of the U.S. state of Missouri was designed by Representative Robert William Wells and adopted on 11 January 1822.

Description

In the center of the seal there is a circular plate which is divided vertically into two parts.

On the right side there is the Great Seal of the United States and on the left side icons that represent the state. At the bottom of a grizzly bear is shown, the strength and courage to represent, and in the upper part of a crescent moon, which is supposed to represent the new statehood and the potential for growth.

Two huge grizzly bears, one on each side, support this tag. Below is a script that carries the Latin state motto:

Furthermore, under the lettering in Roman numerals the year 1820, although Missouri until 1821 was not a sovereign state. The upper part of the seal adorn 24 white stars on a blue background, each representing a different state in the Union. Missouri, the slightly larger star on the helmet dar.
