Seal of Minnesota

The current seal of the U.S. state of Minnesota dates back to 1983, but goes back to an earlier version from 1861.

Shaping

The state seal is found in a slightly different form again on the blue cloth of the state flag. There it is surrounded by a wreath of Queen women shoes, the state flower of Minnesota.

The seal itself is a plowing farmer and a horseback Indians are represented.

Symbolism

In a banner is the French motto of the state:

The year 1858 represents the founding of the state.

The sun rising behind a grassy area indicated, symbolizes the great plain of the state. The Indian stands for the American Indian heritage. Spear, ax, rifle and plow are tools of the pioneer days. The tree stump indicates the timber industry in the region, while the Mississippi and the St. Anthony Falls to point Falls on the importance of water for transport and energy.

The built-up area is agriculture Minnesota.

The three trees (Pinus resinosa ) stand for the state tree and the three large forests of St. Croix, Mississippi and Lake Superior.
