History

Prior to the World Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893, a competition was organized to represent the State at the World Expo with its own national flag can. The winning design submitted Amelia Hyde Center, which provided the decorated with various borders state seal on a white background. The back had a blue background.

A commission formed in 1953 came to the conclusion that the flag simplifies both sides blue and the back should be a mirror image of the front only. Although this proposal was met with criticism from others and another design was proposed with a blue-white- red flag with golden stars, adopted in 1957, the Parliament, the introduction of the new flag. In the 1960s, human rights activists demanded the change of the state seal since a horseback Indians pointed to him who escapes from a pioneer westward. With the adaptation of this, also the flag in 1983 was adapted and changed slightly.

Since 1989, efforts were made to replace the flag with an entirely new one. However, these were unsuccessful. The critics were also encouraged by the results of a survey on the best and worst flag of the North American Association Vexillological in which the flag Minnesota finished within the United States and Canada 67th of 72.
