Flag of Alaska
The flag of the U.S. state of Alaska was adopted on 2 May 1927.
Shaping
The flag shows eight gold stars on a dark blue ground. Make the constellation Ursa Major with the Polarstern dar. in the official description, the blue represents the evening sky, the blue sea, the lakes and the wildflowers Alaska ( Myosotis ). The color gold symbolizes the wealth that is hidden in Alaska's mountains and rivers.
History
In Alaska, was from 1867, when the territory of Russia had been sold to the United States of America, the U.S. flag. 1927, a competition was conducted, in which school children from grades 7 to 12 should design from all over Alaska own flag for the Alaska Territory was founded in 1912. The proposals about 700 submitted the draft of John Ben ( " Benny " ) Benson, a 13 -year-old Alaska Natives from Seward was selected for the new flag of Alaska. Most other designs variations used the state seal or symbols like the midnight sun, the northern lights, bear or gold panning pans. Benson received a cash prize of $ 1,000 and a clock for his proposal.
