Flag of West Virginia

The flag of the U.S. state of West Virginia was introduced on March 7, 1929.

It shows in the middle of a blue edged white bunting the Seal of West Virginia.

The flag goes back to merchants, who in 1904 painted a flag at a trade fair in St. Louis for their stand. It shows the state seal in the middle of 1863, which is framed by rhododendron, the official flower of the State. White stands for purity and blue for the Union

In the center of the seal, a boulder is shown, which shows the date June 20, 1863, the day the West Virginia State was. The two men on the right and left of the boulder represent farming and mining. Below the boulder two rifle and a Phrygian cap are shown.

In a banner is the Latin motto of the State:
