Flag of South Carolina
The flag of the U.S. state of South Carolina was officially adopted on 28 January 1861.
History
General assumptions, it originates from a design from 1775, which was created for the use of troops of South Carolina in the American Revolutionary War. 1861 Palmettopalme ( Sabal palmetto ) was added, which stands for the Fort Moultrie, whose foundation was built on palm trunks.
Shaping
The blue of the flag is modeled on the uniforms of the militia and the crescent of an emblem on their headgear. Despite these assumptions, we find the elements from which the flag is composed, even on a banner from 1765, as a citizen of South Carolina protested against the stamp tax.
Trivia
South Carolina's flag was elected in 2001 in a ranking of the North American Association Vexillological on place 10 of the best -designed national and provincial flags of North America.
