Flag of Iowa

The flag of the U.S. state of Iowa was adopted in 1921.

It consists of three vertical stripes (blue, white and red), illustrate the history of Iowa as part of New France.

The image of a bald eagle is taken from the seal of Iowa and is centrally located on the white stripe in the middle. He wears a long blue ribbon with the motto of the state:

"Our liberties we prize and our rights we will maintain. "

"We appreciate our freedoms and preserve our rights. "

Directly below is in red letters the word " IOWA ".

History

The flag was adopted in 1921 after it was approved in May in 1917 by Iowa State Council for Defense. It was designed in 1917 by Mrs. Dixie Cornell Gebhardt, a resident of Knoxville and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
