Flag of Delaware

The flag of Delaware consists of a sand-colored diamond on a light blue base, in the middle of the diamond sits the Seal of Delaware. Below the diamond is set in white letters the date December 7, 1787, indicating the day, ratified on the Delaware was the first state, the Constitution of the United States. The colors of the flag reflect the colors of the uniform of General George Washington.

The seal in the center of the flag was adopted on 17 January 1777. It shows a sign with horizontal stripes in green, blue and white. On the strip, a sheaf of wheat, an ear of corn and an ox are shown symbols for Delaware agriculture. There is a sailing ship above the shield. The shield is flanked on the left by a farmer and on the right side by a soldier. Under the shield the motto of the state, " Liberty and Independence" is ( to German: freedom and independence). These symbols are also found on the seal of Delaware.

The current flag was adopted on 24 July 1913. During the American Civil War troops had led from Delaware, a similar flag.
