Flag of North Carolina

The current flag of the U.S. state of North Carolina dates back to 1885.

Description

The rectangular flag is divided into three areas of different color. Approximately one-third takes on the left a dark blue field, the remaining area is divided transversely in the middle. Upstairs there is a red box, including a white one.

In the center of the dark blue field is a white, five-pointed star. Left and right of him, the gold-colored letters N and C. Nearby semicircular arches above and below are two bands on golden data in dark blue writing, one is " May 20th 1775 " and the other " April 12th 1776 ".

History

The original flag was at the outbreak of the American Civil War in 1861. The current form, a variant of the battle flag of the Confederacy, dates from 1885 and is provided with the initials of the state. The red field of the old flag was replaced by blue in memory of the Bonnie Blue Flag, which was used as a symbol of secession during the war.

It carries the data of the so-called Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence (20 May 1775) and the Halifax Resolves (April 12, 1776), both of which were held in North Carolina and at the beginning of the American independence movement.
