Flag of Louisiana

The flag of the U.S. state of Louisiana was introduced in 1912.

Shaping

The flag shows on a blue background in the midst of a white pelican and the three boys in a nest under it. The parent bird spreading its wings over the nest and feeds the young with its blood, symbolized by three red drops on his left chest.

Under the nest is a white banner with the motto of the State in blue inscription:

" Union Justice and Confidence"

"Unity, justice, and confidence "

The pelican is considered a Christian symbol of self-sacrifice of Jesus of Nazareth. At Thomas Aquinas says Adoro Te Devote:

" Like the pelicans You died, Jesus my "

In addition, one of the nicknames of the State of Louisiana " Pelican State " ( Pelican State).

History

Between 26 January 1861, and February 8, 1861, Louisiana had declared an independent republic Louisiana. On January 26, they had unilaterally seceded from the United States of America, had joined the Confederate States of America on February 8. This had been expressed by a corresponding flag.
