Copa do Atlântico

The Copa do Atlantico de Clubes 1956 - also Spanish: Copa del Atlántico - was a South American club football competition which was once played in 1956. It was organized by the three football associations of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, of which attended each 5 teams. Between 20 June and 7 July the finalists were played in the Cup system without a return game. The finals - in which the winner of the tournament, the club should be the first to reach two wins in three games - did not take place because the CA Boca Juniors also was annoyed that the first game in Buenos Aires and the subsequent two games played in São Paulo and therefore should be looked at a disadvantage. Corinthians was declared the winner then. Star player of Corinthians in that time was Cláudio, which is leading scorer in club history today.

Not to be confused is the tournament with the Copa del Atlántico in 1947 and the Copa del Atlántico, also known as Taça do Atlântico, for the national teams of Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay, which was in 1956, 1960 and 1976 discharged.
