Dampniat

Dampniat ( Occitan Dampnhac ) is a commune in the Corrèze département on the western edge of the Massif Central. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Communauté d' agglomération de Brive. The inhabitants call themselves Dampniacois (it).

Geography

Tulle, prefecture of the department is located, about 20 kilometers north-east of Brive -la -Gaillarde 10 miles to the west and Beaulieu -sur -Dordogne approximately 33 kilometers southeast. The influx of Roanne, a tributary of the Correze, Coiroux and just the Roanne even run through the municipality. Furthermore, the Loyre, a left tributary of the Corrèze, the area bordered to the south.

Neighboring communities of Dampniat are Saint- Hilaire- Peyroux in the north, Aubazines in the northeast, Palazinges in the east, Albignac the southeast, Lanteuil, La Chapelle- aux- Brocs and Lagleygeolle in the south, Lanteuil and Albignac in the west and Cosnac in the south and Male Mort sur -Corrèze in the northwest.

Traffic

The junction 49 to the A20 Motorway is located approximately 14 kilometers north-west.

History

In the 12th century the town had a nunnery, which belonged to the monastery Obazine. The church itself was incorporated in the 14th century in the provost of Brive.

Gare d' Aubazine

The small town Gare d' Aubazine, located in the municipality of Saint- Hilaire- Peyroux, is an integral part of the history of Aubazines and Dampniat, far more than that of Saint -Hilaire, this station should but first hot Gare de Dampniat. But this place was completely unknown and beyond also hard to spell, Saint- Hilaire was too far away. Aubazine, this name combines eight centuries of history with a great tourist reputation: a remarkable church, two Köster and hanging over wild gorges channels and striking rock formations and megalithic monuments. In 1932 the railway was replaced by a bus in transit, but the place continued to develop positively.
