Aubazine

Aubazines ( Occitan Obasina ) is a commune with 890 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region; it belongs to the administrative district Brive- la -Gaillarde and Canton Beynat. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Canton de Beynat. The inhabitants call themselves Aubazinois (it).

Geography

Tulle, prefecture of the department is located, about 19 kilometers north-east of Brive -la -Gaillarde about 14 km south-west and slightly Beaulieu -sur -Dordogne approximately 32 kilometers southeast. The municipality is situated on the left bank of the River Correze. The Coiroux, a tributary of Roanne, forms the border with the neighboring community Palazinges.

From its lowest height of 126 meters in the west to the shores of the Corrèze, the land rises in the southeast of the Puy de Pauliac to over 520 meters on. The community center is situated on a promontory that overlooks the Coiroux with more than 150 meters. The approximately 24 -acre Lac du Coiroux is located approximately 5 kilometers to the northeast.

Neighboring communities of Aubazines are Cornil in the north, Le Chastang in the east, Palazinges in the south, southwest and Dampniat in Saint- Hilaire- Peyroux in the northwest.

Traffic

The connection point 49 to Highway 20 is about 16 miles northwest. The former National Road 89, after the construction of highway 89 just touches Territory Road 1089, east of the municipal area. The railway line Coutras Tulle crosses the municipality from west to north, entry point is the Gare d' Aubazine.

History

Aubazine, originally Obazine, later Aubazine and today Aubazines (the " S " at the end result of a faulty transmission in a map ), in the 12th century was a monastery founded by the Cistercian Saint Étienne d' Obazine. A short time later a few hundred meters from a convent ( monastery Coyroux ) originated in Coyroux. The monasteries existed until the French Revolution. At that time Aubazines a branch of Cornil.

In the last third of the 20th century the premises were the subject of major archaeological excavations by the historian Bernadette Barrière.

Gare d' Aubazine

The small town Gare d' Aubazine, located in the municipality of Saint- Hilaire- Peyroux, is an integral part of the history of Aubazines and Dampniat, far more than that of Saint -Hilaire, this station should but first hot Gare de Dampniat. But this place was completely unknown and beyond also hard to spell, Saint- Hilaire was too far away.

Aubazine, this name combines eight centuries of history with a great tourist reputation: a remarkable church, two monasteries and hanging over wild gorges channels and striking rock formations and megalithic monuments. In 1932 the railway was replaced by a bus in transit, but the place continued to develop positively.
