Saint-Hilaire-Peyroux

Saint- Hilaire- Peyroux ( Sent Alari Peiros in Occitan ) is a commune with 920 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Tulle et Cœur de Corrèze. The inhabitants call themselves Peyroussiens ( nnes ).

Geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central, about 15 kilometers southwest of Tulle, prefecture of the department, about half way between Tulle and Brive- la -Gaillarde. The municipal area is crossed by numerous tributaries of the Corrèze, whose best-known is the Roanne. At the railway network, the community is connected via the railway station of Aubazines.

Neighboring municipalities are in the north of Saint- Germain- les- Vergnes, northeast Chameyrat and Favars, in the east Cornil, in the southeast Aubazines, in the south Dampniat, southwest Malemort -sur -Corrèze and Venarsal and in the west of Sainte- Féréole.

History

The church bears the name of Saint- Hilaire- Peyroux in honor of former Bishop of Poitiers Hilaire de Poitiers.
