Le Lonzac

Le Lonzac (Lo Lonzac in Occitan ) is a commune with 766 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Vézère Monedieres. The inhabitants call themselves Lonzacois (it).

Geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central on the southwestern edge of the plateau Millevaches and thus also in the Regional Natural Park Millevaches en Limousin.

Tulle, prefecture of the department is located, about 25 kilometers south, Égletons about 25 kilometers south-east and Uzerche about 15 kilometers south-west.

Neighboring communities of Le Lonzac are Affieux in the north, Madranges in the east, in the southeast of Beaumont, Chamboulive in the south, the west and Eyburie Peyrissac in the northwest.

History

From the 10th century is a church dedicated to St. Martin, proven. The name of the village refers to the Latin avellana ( nux avellana - Hazel ) origin has been the estate Olonziacus, then later it was Olonzac and finally then Le Lonzac.
